The TVK government, led by CM Vijay, has officially released the revised operational guidelines for the distribution of the 2026 Monsoon Relief Fund. Following recent cabinet deliberations, the administration has moved to digitize the disbursement process to ensure transparency and prevent leakages. The new protocol mandates that relief amounts be credited directly to the bank accounts of verified beneficiaries within 72 hours of damage assessment.

Chief Minister Vijay emphasized that the focus remains on the Delta districts and low-lying areas of Chennai, where infrastructure vulnerability is highest. The government has also established a dedicated grievance redressal cell at the Secretariat to handle discrepancies in beneficiary lists. This move comes as a direct response to the opposition's demand for greater accountability in disaster management fund allocation.

Opposition leaders have cautiously welcomed the digitization, though they have urged the government to ensure that rural households without immediate digital access are not excluded from the process. The government has confirmed that local village administrative officers (VAOs) will assist in the verification process to ensure 100% coverage.
