No counter payment needed. What he was told at the window? 'Pay ₹1,500 cash for fast processing. Otherwise wait 45 days.' He paid. He got his licence in 3 days. Trichy Resident Paid ₹2,000 Bribe to Get a Death Certificate — For Her Own Father
A resident of Woraiyur, Trichy went to the local civic office to collect her father's death certificate — a document she legally deserves for free within 21 days of death. Instead, a junior clerk told her the file was "stuck" and casually mentioned ₹2,000 would "speed it up." She paid. She got it the same afternoon. This isn't an isolated case. Bribe Demanded for Patta Name Transfer at Sholinganallur Taluk Office
Submitted an online application for residential Patta name transfer in Sholinganallur. When visiting the office to check the status, the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to process the file and clear the field verification. I refused to pay and the file remains pending.
Bribe Demanded for Commercial Building Plan Approval, Coimbatore Zonal Office
Applied for a small commercial building plan approval in Singanallur. The planning inspector and field surveyor visited the site and demanded Rs 15,000 under the table to submit the positive clearance report without raising false deviations.
Mandatory Kickback via Broker for Driving License Test Pass at Madurai South RTO
Attended the driving license test at Madurai South RTO. Although I completed the H-track and road driving tests perfectly, the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) failed me on a minor technicality. The agent outside confirmed a Rs 3,000 kickback is mandatory to clear the test on retry.
New Three-Phase Commercial EB Meter Installation Bribe Demanded in Srirangam
Applied for a new three-phase commercial connection for my shop in Srirangam. The field wireman demanded Rs 8,000 to physically install the meter and run cables from the post. He threatened that official approvals would take months if the amount was not paid.
Under-the-Table Documentation Fee Demanded at Salem West SRO
Went to Salem West SRO for land deed registration. After paying the official stamp duty and registration fees online, the office clerk demanded Rs 12,000 in cash to release the registered document. If refused, they intentionally delay processing the biometric verification.
Police Verification Bribe Demanded for Passport Approval in Adyar
The verifying police officer from Adyar station visited my house for passport background verification. Despite all documents being in order, he openly demanded Rs 1,000 "courier and processing fee" in cash. I refused, citing government rules. He left with a warning.
Bribe Demanded to Shift Domestic EB Meter During Home Renovation, RS Puram
During home renovation, applied to shift the domestic electricity meter box to the front wall. The wireman demanded Rs 4,500 to run the new service line cable and connect it, claiming it would otherwise take several weeks to inspect and approve.
Water Connection Approval Bribe Requested by Madurai Corporation Inspector
Applied for a commercial drinking water connection for my new business in Madurai Town. The water supply inspector inspected the plumbing layout and requested Rs 10,000 cash to issue the final approval certificate. I refused to pay, and the connection remains pending.
