DMK and AIADMK Corner TVK Government Over Proposed Power Tariff Hikes

மின் கட்டண உயர்வு விவகாரம்: திமுக மற்றும் அதிமுக கூட்டாக எதிர்ப்பு

In a rare alignment of political positioning, both the primary opposition DMK and the AIADMK have sharply criticized the TVK administration over anticipated adjustments to state electricity tariffs. Speaking to reporters at Anna Arivalayam, former ministers accused the ruling government of yielding to fiscal pressures at the expense of domestic consumers and micro-industries across Coimbatore and Chennai. The opposition parties warned of widespread protests if the state electricity regulatory commission moves forward with any upward revision.

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami issued a separate statement echoing similar sentiments, asserting that the current administration is abandoning welfare commitments made during the assembly election campaign. He pointed out that rising operational costs combined with municipal tax hikes would severely burden middle-class households and agricultural communities across the delta districts. Both parties have demanded an immediate legislative debate on the state's true financial health.

Political analysts note that the joint pressure from established political heavyweights poses the first major legislative challenge for Chief Minister Vijay's cabinet. The ruling party has defended its fiscal management, pointing to inherited liabilities and maintaining that structural adjustments are necessary to modernize the state power grid. The issue is expected to dominate proceedings when the Assembly reconvenes later this month.
