A stone crushing unit operating near Harur in Dharmapuri district has been reported by a local teacher for employing children as young as 10 years old in hazardous crushing operations, in clear violation of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. Complaint details: - Location: Stone crushing unit on Harur-Pennagaram Road, near Melmaruvathur crossing, Dharmapuri - Approximately 6–8 children aged 10–14 spotted working at the unit on September 17 during school hours - Children performing stone loading, vehicle guiding, and manual sorting tasks - No protective equipment — children barefoot in stone dust environment - Unit operates without visible registration or safety signage - Children are from migrant labourer families settled near the unit Reporting person: A government school headmaster who noticed the children were absent from school for 3 consecutive weeks. He visited and found them at the crushing site. Legal violation: The Child Labour Act prohibits employment of children below 14 years in hazardous occupations. Stone crushing is classified as a hazardous industry under Schedule to the Act.
