TVK Government Unveils Mega Industrial Corridor Plan for Western Belt
In a major policy push aimed at boosting manufacturing and employment, the TVK administration led by Chief Minister Vijay has officially unveiled a comprehensive industrial corridor project spanning Coimbatore, Tiruppur, and Salem districts. The initiative, cleared during today's high-level cabinet meeting at Fort St. George, focuses on sustainable textile tech, MSME modernization, and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hubs. State Industries Department officials noted that the corridor will attract over ₹45,000 crores in projected investments over the next three years, creating hundreds of thousands of direct jobs for Tamil Nadu youth. The policy framework incorporates special single-window clearance mechanisms and dedicated renewable energy subsidies for micro-enterprises operating within the corridor. Chief Minister Vijay emphasized that regional economic balance remains a core pillar of the current legislative agenda, ensuring that industrial growth is not restricted merely to the metropolitan periphery. The administration has also mandated local skill-development partnerships with industrial training institutes (ITIs) across the western districts. Opposition parties, however, have urged the government to ensure transparent land acquisition procedures and safeguard traditional agricultural lands in the region. Meanwhile, industry associations have welcomed the policy announcement, calling it a timely intervention for reviving export-oriented manufacturing units facing global market pressures. Implementation committees will begin district-level consultations starting next week to map out infrastructure requirements.
