Salem Corporation Water Supply Irregular for 3 Weeks in Shevapet and Hasthampatti
Residents of Shevapet and Hasthampatti in Salem have been facing severely irregular water supply for the past three weeks, receiving water only once in two to three days instead of the scheduled daily supply. Problem details: - Shevapet: Sathy Road colony, Vinayagar Koil Street, 4th and 6th Ward areas - Hasthampatti: Gandhi Nagar, Ramakrishna Nagar, NGO Colony Main Road - Scheduled supply: Daily at 6 AM for 2 hours - Actual supply received: Once every 2–3 days, for less than 45 minutes - Water pressure extremely low — upper floor residents in multi-storey buildings receive no water at all Root cause according to residents: Pump failure at Mettur Dam distribution point not fully repaired. Salem Corporation using temporary pump with insufficient capacity. Impact: Families spending ₹300–500 per week on private water tankers. Women and elderly most affected — carrying water up stairs daily. Complaints filed to Salem Corporation Ward Councillors on August 25 and September 5 — no satisfactory response received.
