Chennai Airport Gets New Plaza and Cab Pickup Point Near Terminal 1 Today
After a two-year delay caused by a legal dispute with the previous parking contractor, the new plaza offering seating for 150 passengers and 28 cab bays opens today just 30 metres from Terminal 1.
Why this matters to Tamil Nadu
For the millions of passengers who use Chennai airport every year — particularly those arriving at Terminal 1 — the new cab pickup point solves a long-standing pain point. Previously, app-based cab passengers had to walk or take a buggy to the multi-level car park, adding time and confusion especially for first-time travellers, senior citizens, and those with heavy luggage. A cab zone 30 metres from the terminal exit is a significant quality-of-life improvement. The facility is also expected to reduce vehicle congestion inside the terminal drop-off zone by channelling taxis into a controlled, dedicated area.
