TN Launches Kamarajar Model Residential Schools with ₹125 Crore
Free education, housing, and healthcare for rural students in Classes 9–12 under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Model Schools scheme, with five new ITIs and a Special Law College in Madurai.
Why this matters to Tamil Nadu
For families in remote rural districts — tribal habitations, coastal villages, and drought-prone interior areas — the cost and distance barriers to quality secondary education are severe. Children who clear Class 8 often drop out because there is no quality school within commuting distance and no money for hostel fees. Kamarajar Model Schools eliminate all three barriers at once: free tuition, free hostel accommodation, and free healthcare on campus. The five new ITIs will take skill training closer to districts currently underserved by the existing network, while the Madurai law college addresses the critical shortage of formally trained legal professionals in southern Tamil Nadu.
