Semicon India 2.0: Centre Commits ₹1.27 Lakh Crore for Chip Push
India's July 2026 Semicon 2.0 approval unlocks massive opportunities for Tamil Nadu, already a national leader in electronics manufacturing and chip design.
Why this matters to Tamil Nadu
For Tamil Nadu, Semicon India 2.0 is a multiplier for the state's own semiconductor ambitions — the ₹100 crore IIT Madras centre, the Aheesa semiconductor MoU, and quantum computing deals all become more fundable and attractive when backed by a national ₹1.27 lakh crore programme. For engineering students and graduates in Chennai and Coimbatore, this signals that chip design and semiconductor manufacturing jobs are coming to Tamil Nadu in significant numbers — reducing the need to migrate to Bengaluru or Hyderabad for deep-tech careers.
